Neil's part began with film of Charles and Diana arriving at the NEC. Neil, Marcia and Micah were waiting in the foyer to greet them.

As Micah was rather shy, Neil was left holding Garfield. This was a present either for Prince William or the forthcoming new baby.

Neil then broke into the show to record the piece for the Olympic Gala.

He said -     "Before I forget,  to remind everybody, and especially myself, that Los Angeles is the home city for the Olympics this summer. That is also my home town.  We want to wish the British Olympic Teams and the American Olympic Teams the best luck, the greatest luck that we could possibly wish them. And to say Hello to everybody in the Olympic Gala back in the United States. We wish we were there but there are 12000 joyful souls here in Birmingham who are with you in spirit tonight."

As the lights went up Neil looked over to Charles and Diana and then pointed towards them. He had managed to get Diana on her feet. The rest of the official party followed her lead and managed a polite clap along!
